ABOUT US

Prevention - Response - Celebration - Growth

Prevention
Complex Trauma Canada is a Not-For-Profit Organization with representation and membership from coast to coast.  Our goals are to educate children, adolescents, and adults in the family context to identify, address and avoid traumatic engagements which could lead to Complex Traumatic Diagnoses.

Response
Further education for policy makers and the judiciary to identify and appropriately deal with Complex Trauma through law enforcement and judicial education sheds light on the narrow lens, and inefficacy of the judiciary in assessing both the reasoning for acts deemed criminal, and the correctional and rehabilitation efforts of those who are suffering from traumatic experiences which have not been clinically assessed.

Celebration
Sharing space with those who are on a journey of healing, and those who have achieved post traumatic growth, with those Canadians who are just now identifiying their own complex traumas leads to better mental health and a more stable society for all.

Exponential Growth and Impact
Seeing the difference this can make in people's lives, the lives of their families, and loves ones, Complex Trauma Canada saw that solutions are possible.  We believe there is knowledge and experience out there to support our fellow Canadians and we want to help bring it to those in need, those who treat and those who love.

Our Story

After sharing space with fellow Canadians it became clear that while our friends and neighbours are hardworking and caring people there are many who carry a myriad of traumas with them, which affect their day to day lives, relationships and both mental health and physical health outcomes.

Through sharing space, what else became clear is that there are limited supports and resources that those carrying trauma can access.  Upon investigations this was often a result of traditional practices not integrating current research into education and training.  A growing number of approaches and refinements in trauma therapy are not accessible in all parts of our country, or for all age groups.

Contrast this with children learning about inter-generational trauma as young as grade 8, Truth and Reconciliation Day being recognized federally which recognizes issues of complex inter-generational trauma caused by government services, recognition from the Department of Justice Canada that children and their parents can develop PTSD after journeying through the family court system, and an increased understanding of Operational Stress Injuries and treatment methods.
