In 1988 Dr. Judith Herman suggested a the new diagnosis of Complex PTSD to describe people with symptoms of long-term trauma. Since that time there has been significant research into complex trauma. As the body of science related to understanding and treating symptoms, calming and repairing nervous systems, reforming attachments, reducing the impact of trans-generational transmission of trauma, somatic experiencing and complex trauma in general, new resources and tools become available to practitioners, those carrying trauma and their peers, families and friends.
